Roseburg, Oregon is where Ashley Marie Zeigler calls home. She is the daughter of Barry and Debbie Zeigler, and the older sister of Cuyler Zeigler. Ashley is the 2005 graduate of Roseburg High School where she was active in the Oregon High School Rodeo Association, cheerleading, 4-H, Link Crew, and church. She is currently a Senior at Northwest Christian University majoring in Psychology. Ashley Marie got the chance to live out her dream of being a rodeo queen early in life, winning her first crown, Douglas County Jr. Rodeo Queen, at the tender age of 13. This was her first taste of the rodeo world. Six more titles followed after that. Along with having a love for the western way of life, she is active in the program "Bounce: Mental Health Support and Education", which she founded in her senior year of college. Rodeo has always been a huge part of Ashley life. Being Miss Rodeo Oregon give her the chance to represent the state she loves and the sport of rodeo.

Fashion Show & MROP Luncheon

Wednesday morning got under way with the Fashion Show. The contestants, Miss Rodeo Oregon Jackie and Miss Rodeo Nevada Andrea worked hard on learning their Surfin’ USA dance routine. If you were unable to be there, you missed a great dance. After the dance the contestants were rushed off stage to change in to their formal western gowns. In these gowns they modeled, gave their speeches and answered three impromptu questions. These beautiful gowns ranged in color of light blues to black. The second part of the Fashion Show was the Scholarship Auction. Each contestant was asked to bring an item to be auctioned off. They brought items like necklaces, bottles of wine, custom “Barbie” rodeo queens and handmade quilts. I would like to say a huge thank you to my supports; Stephanie Hedin – Fashion Show Director, St. Paul Elementary School, Annie Bishop – Dance Teacher, Flash for coming at the last moment to help with the sound system and all the other supports that helped make this portion of the pageant the success it was!!

The last judged event was the MROP luncheon with its theme of Tough Enough to Wear Pink. At this event the contestants had a mock tv interview with Fox 12’s Kimberly Maus. On the car ride from St. Paul to the Yamhill Grill the contestants received their speech topic. This topic followed how PRCA and its partners give back to those in need. The contestants had to answer questions on the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The contestants did a wonderful job and entertained the crowd. A special thanks goes to Yamhill Grill, Kimberly Maus, Nichole Andrews, Debbie Brownell , Diane Overstreet and Lynn Haynes.

St. Paul Rodeo & the PBR

At the PBR Tuesday night the contestants rode in grand entry and were judged on their queen wave and how well their horse behaved. St. Paul is known for having booms during the “bombs bursting in air” part of our national anthem. Overall all the horses stood still. After grand entry the contestants were asked to help the trick riders with their performance.

Interview Time

Following Horsemanship our contestants went back to the hotel to have a relaxing lunch with MTRO Stephanie and JMRO Nicole. As requested by the contestants I will not post a picture of them in their curlers and relaxing clothing. After lunch the contestants competed in personal interviews. The contestants interview with one judge at a time for a 10 minute interview. This allows our judges to get know the contestant better. Right after personal interviews, the contestants returned for horsemanship interviews. This interview tested the contestant’s knowledge on the sports of rodeo and equine knowledge. Unlike the personal interview, this interview is conducted as a panel interview.

Horsemanship kicked off with our contestants riding a free-style pattern of their choice on their horse. The goal of this portion is for the contestants show off their best riding skills and what their horse can do. Besides the normal mistakes, part 1 of horsemanship was a tough judge for our judges. Jackie lead the ladies on a flag serpentine and then each contestant did an individual flag run. Part 2 of horsemanship proved to be just as tough as part 1. The contestants rode their draw horses to a set pattern that Jackie set for them. Speaking with each contestant, they felt confident with how their own horse and draw horse performed. What a great way to start off the day!

Banker's Cup Breakfast

Tuesday morning kicked off with breakfast at the Banker’s Cup in St. Paul. Thanks to Kelly and her crew for providing drinks and muffins for our contestants, judges and chaperones! This was an opportunity for the girls to relax before horsemanship. At breakfast we drew draw horses, but there was a twist. The contestants did not know what horse they were riding until the draw horse part of horsemanship.

St. Paul Rodeo Hall of Fame BBQ

Following Orientation our contestants said good bye to their parents until Wednesday evening. As soon as the room was quite the contestants were handed their written test and the pageant began. Also that evening the St. Paul Rodeo Association invited the contestants and MRO members to the Hall of Fame BBQ . This was not your average BBQ of hot dogs and hamburgers. Oh no, you received a slab of meat that was as large as your plate! But before dinner the contestants carried live auction items throughout the crowd. This event was un-judged, but the ladies were encouraged to show off their personalities to get the crowd bidding on their item. Below are a few photos from the auction.
